When planning a holiday in the lovely city of Seville, consider choosing the month of April to take in the fair located in the Los Remedios neighborhood. The fairgrounds covers 1 .2 million meters with an area set aside each year where the amusement park known as "Calle del Inferno" is located.
This specific part of the fairgrounds is particularly a favorite spot for children of all ages where they can find the rides, circus style events and other big time entertainment for their enjoyment. The amusement park is actually designed for use by people of all ages and has a dedicated kiddie area that is chock-full of mini rides and other suitable attractions for even the smallest of fairgoers. Older, more adventurous or thrill-seeking amusement park patrons will find this spot in the fairgrounds not only offers standard carnival fare, but provides some of the latest and greatest amusement rides on the planet.
DO make sure when visiting the Seville fair to wear simple attire, typically shirts and casual trousers.
DO make sure to have your camera ready at hand because it just might appear that every single native in the area is decked out in some type of traditional folkloric costume and the only variation from one person to another is that costume's color. However, upon closer examination the viewer will find that every year the civil fair sports costumes with new patterns and colors that differ dramatically from last year's presentation.
DO make sure you check out the flamenco dancers who wear the most outrageously colorful dresses to be found. The history of the flamenco dress goes well back in time at this little spring fair where bands of gypsies would attend to sell their farm animals to the local city inhabitants. The gypsy women wore simple country clothing with two-to-three tiered dresses. In the course of time, the upper class women attending the fair took to copying the simple style dresses but added more color and more ruffles with a sexier cut evolving throughout time that produced that dramatic effect when the woman walked down the street.
DO purchase an authentic "traje de gitana" or gypsy outfit that has become the emblematic attire for a fair going. Men may wish to wear "trajes cortos" or short suits that were typical for working in the countryside and would later don a jacket when coming to the town feria to trade livestock. What is interesting about the traditional short suit and wide-brimmed hat worn by horse riders in centuries gone by is that the Association of Tailors of Seville began copying these simple fashions turning them into the desire of the landed aristocracy.
If you want to dress like a local, DO choose dark fabrics with a hat of the matching color, making sure you've at least match the jacket. Put on your suspenders and vest, secure your cummerbunds and handkerchiefs, put on your spurs and make sure you're wearing this year's styled buttons.
Since you'll be spending a good deal of your vacation money looking like a well-heeled local, save a great deal of money opting for renting a local vacation Seville apartments where you can relax comfortably each day after taking in the sounds and sights at the Seville April Fair.
